This is the story of how the Vice-President George and Secretary Gwen have developed their love affair with the ‘Collie’ over the last 28 years.

My early memory of my favourite dog was - yes you guessed it -lassie! My poor parents were plagued till eventually they got me a lassie dog when I was 11 years old. She was called lassie from the local SPCA centre but that was as close as she came to the pedigree dog in the films, but I loved her more than life its

Two weeks before George and I married she passed away, I could not live without a dog (a man is no substitute!) so Goerge being madly in love with me agreed to buy me a Rough Collie. We went to the Scottish Collie Club Championship show in Ayr and saw a Blue merle for the first time. We bought a blue puppy dog we called Lance.

Unfortunately he was hit by a car at 5 months because someone came into the garden and left the gate open. He got brain damage but we nursed him and he lived to 6 years old but we could never show him.

Our luck changed when we got a tri bitch from Pauline and Robert Crozier who we mated to Mossylea Shades of Glory at Lynway. This produced Roanburn Night Crusader who was our first dog to win 1st’s at championship shows, and is behind many of our lines now.

The darlings of our kennel have to be CH Roanburn Black Cherry and Roanburn Royal Oak pictured below. They won many top awards and are the backbone of our current stock - we owe them both a great deal.

Currently our young stock are great fun to be with and are making their mark on our lives.

Georges favourite dog of all time - CH Pelido Polar Moon and our Lance.

My favourite dogs of all time - CH Myberns Mystery ay Lynway, Int CH Lynway Seldom Sober, my Detta and Smudge plus a wee cavalier called Lucy and of course my Lassie.

My most embarrassing moment was getting 5 dogs bathed on the saturday night bundling 2 small kids etc into the car at 6.ooam and when Goerge asked for directions as we passed Carlisle 50 miles from home and I read the schedule and I noticed the show was on the Saturday. How could I tell him? I had to eat humble pie and tell George I got it wrong. The air was blue as we turned round and made our way back home.

The funniest story was my great friends Nancy and Michelle arriving late for the Greenock show because they followed a car with 2 border collies in it to the new venue. Unfortunately for them the black and white dogs turned out to be 2 nuns and the new venue they found themselves at was a convent. I wept with laughter until my sides hurt. To this day their adventures are the funniest I have heard, you should ask them some day to tell you their stories.

My most memorable time was winning the Bitch CC at Crufts with Black Cherry, and winning BOB at the British Collie with Royal Oak.

Best of all was winning our very first CC from the great Jimmy Tait with Black Cherry at 9 months. When he came up to me to hand me the ticket I said ‘Oh no not me’ and Jimmy said ‘well----if you don’t want it? so I grabbed it quick and tried not to fall over my rubber legs. It was the biggest buzz we have ever had -  that first CC.
